On October 18th, 2017, I used the email address they gave in their Website, and sent this request to an Irish newspaper (www.inishowennews.com). I've gotten no response yet, so I'm making the same request to anyone who reads this post:
A friend of mine once told us a tall tale that involved three tall-tall men and Inishowen. It ended with a line that I'll always remember, and which I use in conversation perhaps once a month: “Now you'll have a story to tell.”
Perhaps you know of such a tall tale?
My friend J. Gregory Sager was a local puppeteer, actor, playwright and writer, and his gentle humor infected everything he did. We celebrated his life last night. We bury his ashes tomorrow.
I have googled “tall tales” and “Inishowen” (Greg pronounced it “INnishwin”), but without success except to discover the name of your peninsula and the affection you have for tall tales. I want to find the text of this tale so I can learn to tell it half as well as he did. Any help you can give in my quest for this modest tribute would be greatly appreciated.
He was my friend and business partner. I was his POA when he had Parkinson’s. A mutual friend, Ruth Dean, gave me a book years ago by Donald Hall, Writing Well, that started me searching for how to... write well. But Greg showed me how to tell stories. Thank you, Ruth. And thank you, Greg Sager.
Here’s Greg’s photo. It’s grainy, but my favorite. He’s playing the part of Akron’s own Simon Perkins during one of the Perkins Parlor Players performances.
